In this class, we had our first session and introduction on one-point perspective. To start with Andrew gave us a 1:50 plan of a room he had drawn and we were tasked with doing a freehand drawing of this room. As I had not had very much practice with things like this it took me a little while to do this properly as my freehand drawing skills were slightly lacking so I took longer than I expected to do this and come out with something I liked, however, I still managed to stay within the 20 minute time allowance we were given.

This was my final outcome for this mini task we had been set I'm quite pleased with how it came out considering it was my first freehand attempt. However, things such as the arch were difficult to get it straight with a solid curve at the top while adding some depth to bring it more into a 3D style.

After this was done we were to repeat this task however using the 1 point perspective style. To do this we placed a ground line first all the way across the paper. Then to draw a horizon line, further up around our own height I used 180cm as that's how tall I am. Next, we marked a distance point that would be used later, then added a vanishing point, to where parallel lines would appear to vanish. Then we marked out the width and height of our set, projecting the lines from the top of our wall back toward the vanishing point to form the walls of the set.

We then drew along the ground line the distance of the back wall and marked it from left to right below the ground line. Back to the distance point, we made earlier we drew a line from the distance point to the mark we made and then where this line intersected with the wall, is where our back wall would now be. finally, for the arch, we measured how far back and tall the arch is and then traced it all back to the vanishing point and then we added in any extra details such as the actual curve of the arch.

This first session was a really good introduction into perspective, but it was more challenging than I expected as I had very little experience with something like this before and so it was very much both trial and error and learning a new skill at the same time however Andrew was very helpful in explaining things as I had some difficulty understanding parts of it early on.
