As the final approach to this module comes about, I would like to take the chance to reflect on everything that has happed over the course of this year. I have learned a plethora of new skills that can be incorporated into my future work such as pattern recognition to my designs so that viewers can pick up on some of these within my future work.
My original Indesign skills were what I would say beginner level yet I was fairly confident in my head, however, after taking on John's Indesign class I learned all about gutters and columns to help organise the flow of my work and create a more graphically well-designed portfolio and I would now consider myself to be intermediate. My initial portfolio prior to the class was messy and had very few cohesive design images that were just placed with little thought but now they are in a similar spot through making the readability of my portfolio better. As a designer, I think having this portfolio will allow me to now consistently update it as I progress my career. I wonder what it will look like in 10 years?
The idea of how lighting is able to impact the visual feel of a film as minimal prior to Connels master classes understanding how different lighting can change the effect of a shot challenged my preconceptions of what jobs were simple, and straightforward and gave me an insight into the wide ranges of depth and intrigue you could create with a simple thing such as lighting.
Using things such as swot analysis during this project gave me a greater insight into what issues I have when working on a project and has caused me to challenge my own workflow and overall work ethic during lockdown to coming back into normal society again and the transition of a propper working routine alongside with work and managing these issues to not be overwhelmed. While I still feel I have done well-providing life circumstances were better I need to remember that learning from this project is more important than the project itself. The result of this is that as a designer for me the most meaningful part of this project was getting me to think more long-term about what I need to progress in my career and how I wish to present myself in the future. I am really pleased with the portfolio I have been able to cultivate and am now in a position to send it off to the industry and try to build upon these foundations I have now layed.
