In this session, I wanted to explore more into filming and cinematography as I feel this will be a really useful thing to have a more in-depth knowledge of as if I can think about camera shots and how this would look I can plan that into things that I design in the future. The series I'm looking at is called (Learning Cinematography: 2 Working on Set).
In these videos, they look at things such as pre-production planning. As I have found one of my weaker points in my projects is my early planning and how this leads into the rest of the project so having some instructive videos on the planning stages is nice as it gives me something I can use to improve my own work.
Next, I moved onto the process of BLOCKING, LIGHTING, REHEARSING, SHOOTING as these must all be done in some aspect to produce the final end product. He also discusses things such as the on set painter should be usually with the camera department as they will be able to talk to them about things such as paint shades (STOPS) etc and colour.
They discuss how the set should be designed around a specific aspect ratio and so wall heights should be taken into consideration and how the aspect ratio can influence the space that is being used.
Something I think that will be very useful to look into aside from just the camera aspect of film is lighting as they have a few short videos on.
Practical lights are lights for the look of the movie being made. Design as well as to ensure all lights can be lit and used on set not wasting them.
Using warm and cool lighting in contrast with dimmers and low power.
hard/soft light
consistent lighting is very important(continuity)
Separating foreground and background.
This session has been really helpful as I feel I have a much deeper knowledge of the filming aspect of a set and what goes into it, alongside with now a brief look into lighting. I will next look deeper into lighting as I think as a designer this will be a really useful skill to be aware of and able to do in the future.
